Re: Shutting down
My main sadness in this decision is that it reinforces the SES's and its affiliates to just tough it out and all the critics will fade away. What this forum has done, with Mike Gormez previously and Daffy to date, is phenominal. But has it been enough? Yes the damage of the past has been documented ...

Re: How Cults Rewire the Brain
The difference between that and brainwashing is that brainwashing prevents you from thinking critically or reasoning effectively about the thing you're being taught. If someone teaches you to think: "don't question my authority", they're setting you up to accept absolutely anything they s...

St James Senior Boys has a new headmaster
http://www.stjamesschools.co.uk/seniorb ... 89&catid=2
David Boddy is retiring as the end this year and a new headmaster David Brazier will take over from next year.
Anyone know if he has connections with the SES?

Re: An End to the Usurpation by Daffy
Hi Daffy, Contributing my 2 cents worth. On the whole I am content with the moderation of the board and the fact that most of it is allowed to run freely. I do however feel that there has been poor respect shown towards plenty of participants on both sides of arguments, as highlighted by Middle Way,...

The ones that spring to mind right away are:
Pausing
Sanskrit Prayers
Sanskrit as a whole - because it is taught with the intention of being key to self realisation
Golden age decline to iron age

Re: Mistakes against the Shankaracharya Tradition
They are a shining example of what SES does not want to know -- that is if someone is meant to take up a spiritual way in their life - they will find it without SES's help. And I presume also, that implicit in this there is nothing "wrong" with not following a spiritual path, be that by c...

Re: Mistakes against the Shankaracharya Tradition
Thanks Dr Alan for starting this thread, which was born out of you first post. So I have to respond and acknowledge this, make some observations from my own experience of the SES and ask some questions. I recognise the second mistake very clearly. It is probably most clear as a pupil of St James and...

Re: Logical Fallacies used in the School
The only one that isn't used is the "middle ground" argument. My experience of the SES is that they are uncompromising in their views of things even in the face of very strong evidence.

Do you know if there is anywhere where this can be viewed from outside of Australia? I'd love to see the program and to see how other countries' media tackle such issues.

Re: Donald Lambie
Welcome Landgirl, And well done for having the courage to post this time, and also the last time when it all got lost. It does take a huge amount of courage to leave such an organisation and to stand up a tell one's story. What you wrote last time is not entirely lost because you got to express your...

Re: School of Practical Philosophy - Ballarat, Australia
Hi Misled Welcome to our forum. What the SES/SOPP and its associated branches spout is generally conservative and often quite backward. You describe a situation that very much represents the problems with the organisation. It tries to promote itself as an organisation that is welcoming and open, whe...

I'd say that is a result.
