Great. Physical violence between rival factions in an nondualistic tradtion. That's just great. But.. but... don't you see, they're SO spiritual! Gosh, I must leave my cosy Surrey village and FIND MYSELF in Injaaah dahlings, I'm starting to find my materialistic lifestyle so unfulfilling

Take a closer look behind the facade. I had opportunities to do that both while I was a pupil at St James and after I had left. The Upanishads and Mahabharata are the highlights of the curriculum. That is a gross exaggeration. What, by the way, do you have against the Upanishads and Mahabharata? I ...

interesting reading all the replies here. One of the reasons I originally posed the question was because I would be interested to hear of people's experiences when discussing the issues with someone who knows absolutely nothing about the schools or the SES- either friends, aquaintances or partners. ...

Sorry to hear that, apparently due to your experiences with SES, you've become kind of anti-religious or anti-spiritual. Heh heh, yeah, too bloody right pal. Couldn't have put it better myself. They have some very good approaches that go against the flow (I speak as a qualified teacher myself) at J...

Re: Teaching methods
Spirituality is something to be learned in quite a different way than the 'normal' life model. And so I'd prefer a school with some religious/spiritual background much more than a standard one. So you are saying you think it is a good thing for schools to try and teach pupils to be "spiritual"? The...

NYC, thanks for an interesting post. Taking your tutor's points: 1. Accreditation would have had no way of finding or dealing with the the shocking conduct of adults within the school. It relies on irregular inspections that simply spot-check curriculum and lessons. 2. Yes, but so what? Is your tuto...

Other initiatives have taken place whilst the Governors have awaited the 16th March deadline. These include meetings with various Local Authorities, the NSPCC, and other Child Protection Agencies. What was the purpose and outcome of meetings with the NSPCC and other agencies? A suspicious cynic lik...

I feel positively deprived - I have not sung "holy is gowinda", nor have I chanted meaningless Sanskrit prayers. I have missed those special nuances which make St. James so...."special". I feel incomplete as a human being..........Am I a terrible person? Yes, you definitely are. And as a punishment...

Mathem I had forgotten all about the weird chaucerian songs! But could never forget Farndell having had him beat me virtually everyday for four years!
If you had to guess, how many times do you reckon Farndell hit you? Counting individual strokes? I reckon it could be at least 4,000.

Question: How many ex-members or ex-pupils
... have talked to people who have never even heard of the SES about their experiences or the school? And what sort of reactions did such conversations, if they took place, provoke? Helpful? Unhelpful? Understanding? Sympathy? Confusion? Suspicion? Or if you never or hardly ever discuss it with peop...
