Books investigating SES / SoES

Postby Matthew » Tue Feb 28, 2006 4:52 pm

There's been some interest recently in books investigating the SES / SoES. These include:

"Spying in Guru land" by William Shaw
"Call No Man Master" by Joyce Collin Smith
"In search of heaven on Earth" by Rachel Storm
"In search of PD Ouspensky: The Genius in the Shadow of Gurdjieff" by Gary Lachman
"Madame Blavatsky's Baboon" by Peter Washington
"Secret Cult" by Peter Hounam and Andrew Hogg

This is good news. I just went searching for a place to buy it but it does seem to be limited availability from online retailers. Blackwells will order it from the publishers.

It would be interesting to know how the book has been updated and what has been added by Sheena Dewan.

It appears that Sheena Dewan works for the publishers and that Peter Hounam is chairman.

I emailed the publishers and they replied:

I am afraid that this title is long out of print and I do not even have an office copy – perhaps you could try a company that specialises in tracing out of print titles? I am sorry that I am unable to help.

I made it clear to Vision Paperbacks that I was enquiring about the 2nd (1999) edition, co-authored by Sheena Dewan.

Interesting...I never realised there had been a revised edition.

Given that they're accepting orders for the book I think its possible there could be some confusion and Paul Swallow was referring to the 1st addition. So it's probably worth double checking. Andrew Hogg and Peter Hounam are also members of this forum so you could try PM'ing them too.

There seems to be plenty of second hand copies available on the amazon market place

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Secret-Cult-Pet ... 712&sr=1-4

but these all appear to be first editions.

I'm pretty sure my copy is a first edition as Sheena Dewan is a name that doesn't ring any bells.

That is true - but in this case there was no need for the address to be given. (Another common way is to add "nospam" somewhere in the address.)
