especially the 2nd one could be largely applied to most educational institutions for children. I've got no idea where you are coming from on this - I was lucky to attend 3 different state schools before St Vedast in the 70s, and then back into the state system on leaving in the 80s. I have nothing ...

I would disagree with that, Witness - simply because the SES was largely the creation of one man. Actually, my reaction to reading Snowman's post was to imagine MacLaren sitting there burning the midnight oil while reading "Setting Up Cults for Dummies - be the leader of a religious sect within 28 d...

meant that the school closed in our o level year. I am sure this affected me massivley, Debenham did not want me in St James and so I was effectivley out on the street. ! Charming. Seriously? What a ?*$**^g (***. I've often wondered what happened but luckily I bailed out just before all that. Guess...

Re: SES philosophy and the SES schools for children
Its worth repeating eh? :) Yes, nice one. Very well written Snowman. Right, Boddy, or one of your minions, if you read this. How about sticking an edited version of that up on your St James website so prospective non-SES parents know what they'll be dropping their kids into? Instead of some misty-e...

Re: How I ended up at St Vedast and other thoughts!
In reply to Daffys comments. i thought it worth telling my story of how I ended up at St Vedast and a few of my rambling thoughts along the way! I was there from 1979 in Queensgate till its closure in 1985. Chris interesting stuff Chris, funny how you go to school with someone and only know 1% abou...

One of Hipshon's sayings
When sending the entire class off to be caned was "When the bomb drops we all die", to explain why the painful corporal punishment of 99% innocent kids was fair.

I mean, turn it on its head... how about if the SES had actually based its doctrine on a hypothetical hierarchical matriarchal eastern religion/philosophy/cult, and 20 year old boys were being married off to provide batty old spinsters with children and servitude because some loony up a hill in the ...

but if you are the same grimep who is on the yahoo group then you are well aware that I am not a 'stooge'. Shona Yes, I didn't mean to imply you were one. Also to Sescaped, I didn't mean to come over abrasively when asking where you are coming from in terms of not wanting to be labelled as a victim...

Shona, Sescaped - hopefully no-one is meaning to imply that ALL the girls were/are brainless automata unable to resist the SES's hold over them, their friends, their families. Surely it's down to individual personalities and circumstances. I mentioned in another thread "Stepford Wives"... that was c...

unless you are someone who pays for your own ISP, or are prepared to use your work mail account (which is against the small print on many contracts these days) you would be excluded from posting. As we've just seen the tip of the iceberg on here and many other ex-pupils won't be aware of this site I...

yes Shout... these days its called "grooming". We all knew it was going on... but how do you find the hard evidence? I guess testimonies might help... though how many of these "Stepford Wives" would want to come forward? Not forgetting that for many the SES is a middle class club and an opportunity ...

I find it incredible that there are so many parents with no idea what they are letting their kids in for, and thanks for writing Jambrekes. If this message board didn't exist one would surmise that - as there is nothing else like it - people would continue to enrol their children oblivious to the fa...

Anonymity, well I imagine that a lot of people prefer to remain anonymous is down to a) convention on the internet, its best to hide your identity by default, b) perhaps many still have family and friends involved in the SES and publishing their views could cause relationship friction and c) maybe p...
