The letter I have sent

Below is the letter I sent to the magazine. I have deliberately kept the tone polite, and tried not to be too emotional, as I have found this to be counter productive in the past. I will of course post on here if I receive a reply. "Dear Editor, I recently picked up a copy of your new summer is...

Re: Has SES been officially classified as a cult in the UK?

Thanks for both your messages. actuallythere - I can see your point completely. I have been loath to use the c word myself in the past, as it immediately marks you out as a "crank" in some circles. I'm not keen to write a long letter detailing my experiences, as I don't feel they would bot...

Has SES been officially classified as a cult in the UK?

I wondered if anyone on here knows if the SES has ever been officially classified as a cult in the United Kingdom, and if so, by whom? I'm currently writing a letter to a magazine which carries adverts for the part 1 courses asking them to warn their readers. It would help a great deal to be able to...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Hi Moxon, I am one of the ex-pupils and child abuse survivors from the British schools which McLaren set up in the 70s, but I wanted to make sure that you know you are welcome here, even though a lot of the activity on this forum took place some years ago. We all need a place to talk about what happ...

Interesting study report in The Guardian

Here is a link to an interesting article about a recent study into the effect that childhood abuse has on certain regions of the brain. I don't think it'll be news to any of us that we are more prone to depression than the average population, but it's interesting to see it borne out in scientific te...

Re: EXPERIENCES AT ST. VEDAST (now St. James) AND THE S.E.S

I think the Forum needs to focus on what the SES is about now I agree, Woodgreen, but I think it is still important for people who first come to the forum to read this thread and to see that it's here. There are still many of us who survived the SES schools as children who may not yet have found th...

Re: Queensgate Foundation

Doesn't look like it's linked to me. It's a community school that's been set up with the support of several local and national bodies, none of which have even a whiff of SES about them.

Totally unconnected in my humble opinion.

I too would be in favour of this, but how do we go about it? Does anybody know? I have absolutely no idea!

Thanks, AT, for your kind words about my letter. I may well take your advice and make a bit more of a stink. I'll keep you posted!

Re: Just for fun...really?

Hi AT, No, unfortunately! At least I tried, and someone else has been informed. You never know how much good that will do. I've always said that as long as I can stop one person from joining the School or, more importantly, sending their child to the schools, then I am happy. It's also important to ...

Re: Just for fun...really?

Excellent advice, AT, I second it! Unfortunately, there is nothing much you can do if your loved one is determined to follow this path. My grandmother is still very involved with the SES in London, and we have told her about everything that happened to us as children, and to our parents when they we...

You also need the ability to completely suspend your cognitive reasoning facilities, but then that's true of any religious belief (with apologies to any of you who may be offended by that)!

Can the SES claim Gift Aid?

Hi, I thought this story might interest members on here: http://www.secularism.org.uk/exploitative-church-rakes-in-mil.html and it got me thinking...I assume the SES is able to claim Gift Aid? Not sure what we can do about it, as it appears the authorities aren't that interested, but it's not someth...

Re: The SES and Regional Schools in England

I may have my recollections wrong, as it was some time ago, but I seem to remember that Townend was chosen because he had a history of working on cases of child abuse. I'm pretty sure that his appointment was approved by the Pupils and Parents Inquiry Action Group, which was very active at that time...
