shout's exile

Perhaps I can make a few comments not in support of Shout as such but possibly in sympathy with what I think he is trying to convey. It is one thing to discuss a subject in a detached, almost clinical , sort of fashion and much of the time this is the most likely course to arrive at a 'balanced' and...

detention repetition

The idea of repeating an admission of your 'trangression' and detention (after school ?) doesn't seem to work on Bart Simpson either. The 'education' feature of the Age in Melbourne invites comments on schools etc -- maybe a good candidate for an investigative report. I presumed (and stated wayback)...

ses science

Tom, just looked at the John Colet science curriculum on electricity -- thanks for the address; I cannot understand how the '9 Vedic elements' can be taught in a contemporary science education -- also their text reference on static electricity dating from 1904. This certainly mixes "philosophy" and ...

legal action

Re Legal action -- legal means not only fee taking lawyers but recourse to the law making and enforcing bodies -parliament, MPs and police, education ministry etc -- all free of charge and capable of generating evidence useful to later civil action . Nice to see at long last that this (inevitable, g...

personal abuse

Since we are being pedantic I would have classified the abusive posting being referred to ( 'nigger loving' etc ) as being racially based rather than strictly personal per se (ie it refers to a class of people having a general characteristic -- in this case fraternal feelings for persons of the negr...

reconcilliation suggestion etc

Tom Grubb et al, from afar it seems there is a curious bipolar characteristic to the discussion about the SES and it's influence on the St James school -- it oscillates between 'they are mongrels constantly abusing children , let's take legal action ...' to ' that's all in the past, forgive and forg...

lost archives

Tom, just checked on the John Colet archives -- looks like they have deleted everything bar two pages from 2004 on "Abhinaya' (dance) and a file that will not open on " science ,Thales to ... " By the way has anybody tried to download the episode of "South Park" that 'dealt with' Scientology ? (that...

science vs SES

Thanks Tom, I have read Rupert Sheldrake on morphic fields and pets who 'know their master is coming home' etc -- I think New Scientist made the comment on his first book that "if there ever was a candidate for book burning this has to be it " . A bit harsh perhaps -- Sheldrake is a qualified biolog...

female talents

Hmmm.... would like to see some follow up on that research -- no doubt they interacted after marriage and likely shared a similar musical 'signature' having also been student and teacher -- I can see no reason why the Bachs Mr and Mrs could not have collaborated -- look at the current Mr and Mrs Bro...

self realization etc

The title of this topic is probably meant to be "self realization of women in the SES " rather then the two pronged " women AND self realization in the SES" -- there is very clearly a great sensitivity to the perception of unequal treatment of the sexes both within SES and otherwise -- this is almos...

the boddy problem

Is it not possible in the UK teaching system for someone to lodge a teaching complaint directly with the relevant authority or minister for education (?) -- rather than having to expect the board of governors or the SES to do something . It seems unlikely that any internal action will be initiated s...

deja vue

Bella, the reference to the 'meaning' of Deja Vu experiences was amongst a lot of other similarly slanted 'discussion' amongst the class about 'lost time' events (ie have you ever been driving on a long trip and realized you couldn't remember the last town you went through ? ) -- this might not happ...

approaching enlightenment

Thanks for the backhand compliment Bella ("Starting to feel like Ross ") or was it an example of empathy? (or even mind reading prescience perhaps ) Surely at least some of you must concede the reality of philosophical understanding -- as in the EMERGENCE of a kind of knowledge that only comes about...

the Melbourne school(s)

Can anyone shed light on the history of the Melbourne "school" - in particular when was it established and how has it managed to finish up occupying prestigious buildings like the Royal Society and various public premises ? Is there any remaining connection to the Georgist league (last known of in a...

SES red cards ?

Anton R -- I had thought you had severed all ties with the SES/SOP - can you explain please what you mean by 'receiving yellow cards' from the SES establishment? Is there something to fear from them? Can someone post a reasonably detailed description of what the SES 'version' of Advaita Vedanta actu...
