Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

I would like to thank nick for stimulating some discussion about the rights and wrongs of the SFSK. The point that I'm interested in is whether the Mavros were serving the truth or their own egos. While agreeing with Krishnamurti who at the time was to become the world teacher, dissolved his organiz...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Hi Ahamty 2, Swami Shantanand Saraswati was Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math from 1953-1980. He stepped down from the position in 1980 and Swami Vishnudevand became Shankaracharya. He lived for another 17 years before passing on in 1997. Do you know why he stepped down and what he did during those 17 y...

Re: Practical Philosophy

The following is a comment made by a pupil who attended the School of Practical Philosophy. "I attended classes at the school in NYC for several years. I no longer attend. It's always hazardous to invoke such an emotionally charged word as "cult" when talking about any group. When you...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Sorry to hear that Kerever Park is up for sale. It did have a beautiful garden and the tree's were magnificent. It is going to be sub-divided which is a great pity. Probably some boutique hotel will get hold of it.

Practical Philosophy

An American girl attended the 10 part course that that the Boston branch of the School of Practical Philosophy runs. Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Had a look at SFSK website and they describe themselves as a cultural education organization not associated with any religious organization. No mention of Advaita Vedanta or their connection with an Indian holy man Swami Swarropanand. Is it any wonder that the pupils in this school consider they are...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Hi Babs, and welcome to the SES forum. Wow, you endured nearly 10 years before you finally said enough is enough and left the SFSK. I agree with what you said about school being modeled on an English boarding school which I attended for a short time in my youth. Top table, stand up for headmaster, e...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Does anybody know if Mrs Mavro ever learned to speak Hindi? You would think if that is the language spoken by your Guru you would make the effort to learn his language so you could communicate directly with him. That would also apply to other leaders of the SES. By paying Sitaram Jaiswal to act as t...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Thank you Ella for all the information you provided about the Ashram. I can see why people are attracted to HH Shankaracharya Swaroopanand. He has such a beautiful compassionate face. A description about him says "He is a Saint who always thinks for the needy, handicapped, old and sick." H...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Ella, do you know anything about the Parabhakti Ashram Sydney? According to the website www.paramahamsi.org it was started in 2004, and was Shankaracharya Swaroopanand's first ashram overseas. Is it connected with the SFSK in anyway? They seem to be mainly Indians who study the Bhagavad Geeta.

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

The sad thing about the School for Self Knowledge is that they must be collecting a lot of bad karma for the leaders of this organization. If one reads about Swarupananda Saraswati ji Maharaj who is supposed to be their Guru the SFSK is simply not following his teaching. If one is Christian one can ...

Re: Sydney School for Self Knowledge

Hi Ella. M.C. I thought you would be interested in what Swami Shree Swaroopananda Saraswati ji said about charging money for initiation. Q: Brahmananda Saraswati did not charge any fees when he used to initiate? Shankaracharya: This is a principle. A quotation from Goswami Tulsidas:- "The guru ...

Re: 'Secret' mantras

Hi Ahamty 2, my definition of the word Ram is simply an uncastrated adult sheep or if you prefer RAM can also mean random access memory.
