Down With Skool

Just to introduce a lighter (not to say irrelevant) note, Although I had not the unique experience of the English minor public school, I got some insight into its 'benefits' from the books of Nigel Molesworth, who chronicled his times at St Custard's with a mixture of low cunning and ineffably bad s...

Goblinboy It must be the company I'm keeping on this board. Your bad example is contagious. By the way, I've been wondering whether you see yourself as a largely benificent, misunderstood goblin boy such as might staff Gringotts, or as a more brutalist version, like a Hobgoblin? Could be time for an...

Anton, Last night I asked Donald Lambie (he says, abandoning concealment quicker than a pole-dancer) if he was happy for me to speak as an individual to ITV. His response was that I should what I thought best, with a caveat about stitch-ups. So GoblinBoy's call for transparency (for some reason I ke...

TM

Just to clear something up, there is a BIG difference between TM (administered by the Maharishi) and the School's meditation. We don't: - bounce around trying to fly - claim that it has a mystical effect on the world - refer to it as TM The Maharishi is a (somewhat) rogue disciple of Shantananda ......

NYC Don't know about neo-Platonic ... I think what you are saying is that we are Platonic in the Karl Popper sense - that is, a 'closed society' rather than an 'open society'. The short answer to your question is that it would be impossible. But the long answer is that it is not that simple. There a...

What is it you want??? Didn't really answer your question there. I personally want to belong to an organization whose aims and methods are entirely consistent with the ethical norms and standards of reasonable people. To this end, I believe that there has to be: - a sincere apology from the School ...

What is it you want??? I totally agree with your view of the forum. What I am saying is that IF we start cataloguing what people say, we are changing that. As for burkas ... in some cultures they believe that the sight of any part of a woman incites male lust ... that's not my view and i presume it...

I don't think they felt 'alienated' You seriously expect us to believe that? Others don't agree with you - see some recent postings. As for 30 years or more, I was referring to the stories from Stanhill Court. I don't know the dates of that, but I would think early 70s? Don't assume that I'm trying...

NYC All right, mebbe me getting crotchety late at night. Sorry. I just found your catalogue of stuff on sex a bit OTT ... in my experience over 20 years: - the School is a place where sexual matters are far less prominent than other places (of course we are all sexual beings ...) and the dress code ...

Ben I do too, but what would be wrong is a catalogue of statements about him taken out of their original context. That's all I am saying. In the context of an angry and cathartic post certain things may be said and understood as such ... out of that context those things take on a different slant. EG...

You're making me start to feel sorry for the man. So let's get this straight. You're proposing to gather together systematically all of the remarks made about the guy on this site? I'm sorry, but it starts to seem like a witch-hunt. Leaving aside his guilt or innocence, I'd be VERY wary of doing any...

Free, You forgot to mention one thing - Take an open mind! You know ... 'free thinking'? It can hardly be denied that a somewhat paranoid approach might be justified given the material on this site ... but in the end why would anyone bother going to any such meeting if they thought there was an effo...

mm- Well I'm sorry you feel that way. Some people are on this Board to vent their anger; and that's valid. But others, whether or not they are angry, also have a constructive purpose - such as pressing for positive steps from St James in the direction of transparency, proper governance and independe...

mm- Well, why not give him a chance? If it is damage limitation, fire away. But I don't believe that it is. Don't tar DL with the same brush as his contemporaries. I think you would be making a 'mistake' (dirty word). SES members that were obviously placed there to stand up for the school As for 'pl...
