... and then there are truly 'freeing', 'liberating' beliefs. I have to disagree. Beliefs are by their very nature restrictive ... Questions are truely liberating. By 'truly liberating beliefs' I meant 'an inner knowing of that which truly liberates' . 'Particular' or 'fixed' beliefs, i.e. belief s...

how we could ever trust or have confidence in the ventures that the SES may set out to do without being cynical that they are somehow hiding ulterior motives? What planet do you live on? Have you ever known anybody who didn't have any remaining hidden motives? Can you, hand on heart, say with compl...

I didn't think of that way but it is quite distressing that in order to avoid one restrictive belief system, children are then exposed to another one. Well, there are 'restrictive belief systems', and then there are truly 'freeing', 'liberating' beliefs. It seems the original intention behind all r...

Re: John Scottus School in Ireland - illegal corporal punish

A huge issue for the SES schools is that they draw teachers from an extremely limited talent pool, confined by SES membership. It's a major limitation. I vaguely remember it being stated here that the majority of teachers at the London day schools nowadays are non-SES-members. Are you saying that t...

What do you have to fear from this being discussed publicly?

Re: suspension

Some of the chatter on this forum is becoming pedantic in the extreme and non informative to say the least. Agreed (although we might not necessarily agree what bits are pedantic and non-informative :-)). Having waded through the increasingly vitriolic and out of control shouting of the person in q...

Daffy - that link says that only moderators can read the forum. Is it in the locked posts? Oops, you are correct, only Mike and I can read it - which is probably just as well! The post was just a screed of personal attacks that did not express any constructive views whatsoever and was intended to f...

Hi mm What world do you live in? Not the SES world that's for sure. Of course I'm biased in favour of non-members. I don't support what the SES teach, believe in or practice. Why should I? Disliking the SES's teaching is one thing; concluding that non-members' posts can safely be assumed to be unbia...

Hi mm I was merely trying to ascertain where Sam was coming from. If he is a member of the SES then I can read his posts as coming from someone trying to defend the SES and St James. If this is true then I have to decide whether his posts are unbiased or not. This implies that posts from non-members...

Re: St. James does NOT 'Recruit' Pupils into Funny Farm

Justice OK, so just to be absolutely clear, are you saying that you have never met and never heard of ANYONE who has suffered Mental Health problems following involvement with the School of Economic Science? Hm. As long as you don't lose sight of the fact that most people's mental health problems de...

By the way, the governors have chosen to make quoting of the text as hard as possible. They refuse to remove the childish script which prevents copy & paste. Do you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat? If yes, go to FILE - CREATE PDF - FROM WEBPAGE. Once you have a pdf version of the website...

Hi Mike Hi Abel, You believe I have some dark motive ... No, but maybe just a little bit of paranoia: this is the first time in 5 1/2 months of membership that I have objected to a decision you have taken, or anything you have written; and in my first post in this thread I specifically stated that "...

Re: pouring oil on troubled flames

Mike I presume from our past exchanges that you don't have any recent first hand experience of what you are talking about, just a general aversion to what you hear. Forgive me if I am wrong on that. If so, why don't you play the moderator properly and let the people who have the experience say what...

Daffy Abel, I can see why you regard Matt as a kindred spirit and why you want him around here, but he's gone, hopefully for good. Now get over it. Don't you get it? It's not about Matt, not about Mike, not about myself - it's about the credibility of this forum, and what it is trying to achieve. AH

Hi Mike What planet do you live on? Do you really believe that anyone old enough to have access to the internet (i.e. any of the kids coming here) can possibly be shocked by Matt's "vulgar language"? Abel, I've been involved in discussions on the Internet for over 10 years ... So have I. So what? .....
