Re: Laughter is the best medicine

After residentials and the diet of mostly bread and cheese I found myself to be constipated when returning home. I found it interesting in Dorine Tolleys book she mentions that Mr MacLaren also had chronic constipation and she had give him a laxative in his morning glass of milk although he did not ...

Re: Technological Renaissance

Hi Different Guest. The only two sites that are worth a look at are both from New York. The first one is the Philosophy Day School http://www.philosophydayschool.org. The entrance to the website states " Every parent wants something finer for their child. They know that a child by its nature is...

Re: Technological Renaissance

Thank you Cousin It for giving me a good laugh with your comment about 'Philosophy makes you slow, stupid and inefficient'! Could not have said it better myself. And like you its from personal experience. Also about the students cleaning your house. Every time I watch a zombie movie I can't help thi...

Re: Technological Renaissance

Mention of the Kent Street building has brought a few memories to mind. I remember spending many hours and nights sanding, polishing and varnishing the doors to the building because they had to look just right to the people that passed by. Unfortunately the doors attracted vandals who would run thei...

Re: Technological Renaissance

I would agree that the school does not make its money from the part 1 course which in Sydney is currently $185. However it does depend on numbers to keep all its activities going. I know in Sydney when the school bought the property in Kent Street this was achieved by senior pupils pooling their mon...

Technological Renaissance

Touring the web sites that SES and its various off shoots have is a real eye opener. Most part one people comment on how nice the flowers are and how clean everything is and how well mannered people are. If only they knew what went on behind the scenes and how it is all stage managed to keep them co...

Serving the Absolute = Cheap labour for SES I worked for 14 years and my wages came to nothing. What would the unions think? Exploitation, or I got what I deserved for being so gullible.

Re: How ‘Vedic’ is the ‘Vedic Teaching’ in SES?

I agree with Open Mind when he questions how Vedic is the Vedic teaching in SES. School originally started with teachings from G.I. Guurdjieff and P. D. Ouspensky who called their teaching the Fourth Way. Then came the Indian philosophy of Advaita Vedanta with its many wise men (Shankaracharya's). T...

Re: is the school of philosophy a cult?

Listening to a dialogue that Krishnamurti recorded, he stated that "Truth is a pathless land. You can't approach it by any religion or sect. You are accustomed to being told how far you have advanced, what your spiritual state is—how childish. Who but yourself can tell whether you are beautiful...

Re: Apology

On February 13, 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologised for the hurt caused by decades of state-sponsored treatment of indigenous Australians. Listening to the speech brought tears to my eyes and many other Australians. Did saying sorry change anything here in Australia? Not really, its business ...

Re: Enjoying the dream

I would agree with bonsai that one of the main weapons school used against anybody speaking up was the threat of ostracising them. When I attended school there was even a special group called the O group where pupils ended up if they didn't toe the line. I don't know if this practise is still curren...

Re: Enjoying the dream

I think Lord Acton got it right when he said "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely" SES teachers are just like the rest of us, with some good and some bad inside of us. I remember from my own school days we had a teacher that was a bully by nature and enjoyed givi...

Enjoying the dream

Dennis Waite was asked a question by a person seeking enlightenment who had been a member of a spiritual organisation for 7 years and was wondering after the 7 years if his goal was really enlightenment? A: Yes, I understand your views. I used to belong to the SES organisation in the UK and attended...

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

The best time to indoctrinate a person in a lifetime of belief and devotion to religious dogma is when they are young. Hence the Jesuit motto "Give me a child until he is seven and I will give you the man." So the blame is not on the children but on the parents who send their children to s...

Re: 'Shame on You' by Clara Salaman

I listened to Clara's interview, and her description of pupils having 'sheep mentality' sure rang a bell with me. One more book she has sold! I think there is a book in all ex-schoolers but the general public would think we were all crazy to stay in an organisation that had similar views as the Tali...
