thanks emmalu, I know what you say is right but in common with a lot of other SES people they still have an element of the the 'I cannot remember this and the school would have told us if there were a problem therefore it cannot be true' attitude. When I asked whether anyone in SES had mentioned tha...

no, not talking advanced at all, but am slightly confused by terms for school age groups. 7th form for St James/Vedast is, incidentally, the name of our 'official' ex-pupil organisation. I've never got my head around 'years' so lets stick with ages. When I was at school there were 'O'rdinary levels ...

not all, no, certainly the school I moved too which had a good reputation did not offer these as part of the syllabus. But I only know this because some of my fellow 6th formers were re-taking maths and asked for help. To be fair it might have been CSEs they were taking rather than O level but I cou...

You know the strange thing in this is that if that incident was setting a precendent, or at least unusual, then it would have gone around St Vedast and I would have heard of it, yet I have no recollection. We must have all been so desensitized that it was just another in a long line of injustices t...

How limiting to teach that because Mozart was such a genius no one will ever meet his standards let alone surpass them. How arrogant. And how stupid. Of course they won't if they're never permitted to learn the fundamentals of musical composition. I think it's important not to exclude Mozart just be...

Surely the description of 'vedic' (whatever it's origins) maths should be dependent on whether it works or not rather than based on the personality of an individual who taught it. Most schools don't teach geometry or trig either but they come in dead handy in the oddest situations - like working out...

sorry, I wasn't making myself clear, I think it's important that the 7th form should be made to see that they have a responsibility to their members and that by publishing this they have dropped below the standards required of them. I too hope that the chairman will be independent and unbiased but w...

Would this be an SES based parenting course?! That's seriously scary. But back to Vedic maths, if you get past the bunkum some of the techniques are fine - I do find I remember vertically and crosswise and it takes up less space on the paper. unfortunately it won't do for exams where you have to sho...

Actually Alban thinking back to SES weeks my feeling is that they were not only scared we youngsters might just get a bit 'carried away' by the lyrics - we might start to think - and the rhythm - what, a shagfest in the chapel maybe? (Which is daft really seeing as there was more bodily contact at t...

Coralie, it must have taken great determination to publish this. Well done, you're braver than I. Denying that you have any right to emotions such as anger and sadness and grief is one of the SES control techniques. I hope this marks the beginning of a resolution for you.

Alban I think you've hit the nail on the head here, it's fear that keeps us anonymous, especially when you talk to some of the people who went to school with you and their response is (I paraphrase) 'ok so it was a bit wierd but it wasn't nasty in any way, I certainly don't remember anything that co...

please complain about this item on the 7th form site. if the inquiry into the 'mistakes' is limited then the testimonials they seek should also be limited - i.e. specific incidents that are worthy of praise, only boys, only the years specified and they should have to provide dates/times/witnesses et...

I can't speak for more recently than a couple of years but there were at that point a lot of spanish speaking employees in the kitchens at Olympia and I'm not at all sure that they are all in SES - or at least if they are they haven't got to the 'if you wear jeans you're no better than a prostitute'...

domain names

don't know if this would provide a getround but if you only have a hotmail type address you can register a domain name which gives you an e-mail 'mask' and at ?10 for 2 years (approx) it won't break the bank... strange subject for a first post I know but everyone has to start somewhere... I'm stayin...
