Yes, I also went to the Sunday school for a year before St James started. It is a very long time ago and I was very young, so the details are more than a little hazy, but here are my recollections. I remember really looking forward to going to this Sunday school. My parents must have told me many wo...

The Flaming Has to Stop

This forum has become very ill-tempered in the last couple of weeks. Every other thread seems to degenerate into insults and petty name-calling. This is supposed to be a forum for friendly and civil conversation about a serious subject - the SES, St James, St Vedast and their sister organisations ro...

It's not clear what kind of message you are trying to send each other ('PM' or email), but if it's email, remember to check your profile to ensure that you have a correct email address listed (click on 'Profile' at the top of the screen). If you want, send me a PM confirming your email addresses and...

Re: Greetings - Ex-SPP member from NYC

I've noticed that the postings tend to go WAY off topic and that is what has put me off of posting here intially. I would love to post more but I have to ask that people stick to the topic. Yes, this is annoying and I've complained about it in the past too. My amateur pyschologist explanation: peop...

People, people, let's all leave it there. I'm going to lock this thread for 24 hours to let everyone calm down :)

EDIT (19/2): I've unlocked the thread again. Please keep the discussion civil and on-topic!

I agree with those who say corporal punishment is not the answer, particularly with 'weapons' such as the cane. As a parent myself of a young child I am determined not to introduce violence into my family. I watch our many friends with older children who are successfully managing to bring up their k...

I think Alban has really hit the nail on the head here - and her comments are certainly germane to Daffy's experience where even now his parents are unable to acknowledge what went on on at the schools or its affects on their child. I feel for Daffy as it is hard to be estranged from your parents, ...

Chris, your comments provide much food for thought. I want to address a couple of points you make. Please note I am not having a go at anyone's parents in particular - I am trying to discuss parental responsibility generally. You say your parents only wanted what was best for you. My parents frequen...

How much were our parents to blame?

In all the accounts of abuse at St James and St Vedast, one topic has been glaringly absent from the discussion: how much our parents were to blame. Why is this? I was at St James for my whole primary and secondary education. I hated it from start to finish. I frequently told my parents what I hated...

Re: ADG, I am not dissing the sorority!

by the time I had left St James I had never touched a computer. They had a couple in the boys school of course, but they were not considered necessary for us! Actually, although you are correct in saying that the boys' school had some computers, they weren't considered necessary for the boys either...

Perhaps some clever vegemite would like to take a screen shot before it disappears. At the risk of not doing justice to their ridiculously over-engineered flash-animated web site, how about just a copy and paste like this? "Inquiry into Discipline and Pastoral Care at St Vedast and St James - 1975-...

TS, can you tell us the name of your form teacher? Do you recognise the names of any of your classmates on this forum who witnessed these events?

Well done Daffy for volunteering. We'll try not to make life too hard for you  Now I know why the Speaker of the House of Commons is dragged unwillingly to his chair at the annual opening of Parliament! For everyone's information, I generally only act as moderator while Mike Gormez (the owner...

You just beat me to it, Mike - I will post a clarification about the 'part time' nature of my role in the 'New Moderator SES Group' sticky. Matt, the regular users of this board are keeping a lookout for you. Please don't try to adopt any further guises as we have clever ways of detecting any furthe...
