Re: Katharine Watson

I think I tried to join this forum some years ago - to help or be helped - but as an adult with a connection to the SES your forum declined my attempt to join. Woodgreen, I can assure you no-one has been prevented from joining this forum because of having connections to the SES. Yes, there have bee...

Re: SES PHILOSOPHY: what it’s like and what to watch out for...

I'm not at all surprised at this threat of supposed legal action but really, I think a cased based upon handing notes to 3-4 people via the internet sounds very shaky at best. I hear the same experiences over and over again on this forum. Are the powers that be planning to sue everyone here? If so, ...

Re: Clara Salaman / Live in the present

Scientology and the SES are no more ridiculous than Christianity or Judaism. Really? You are going to compare them? Really? I was never at St. James or St. Vedast, living in the US, but somehow I've managed to find compassion and empathy with the members here who suffered terribly at the hands of t...

Re: The Wisdom of Nicholas Debenham

I love how heavy metal is classified as "pop" music. And I'm not sure what drugs he's thinking of but most heavy metal fans that I've met just drink beer. And occasionally smoke pot. But mostly beer.

Re: is the school of philosophy a cult?

I generally tell people the truth. Here's what was good and useful from my years of membership. Here's what wasn't. The good was very good but like in an abusive marriage, the good times didn't justify or make worth the bad. Most of my years were as a child/teen so I didn't have a choice but certain...

Re: is the school of philosophy a cult?

I'm not sure they have an official person for advice regarding psychological issues. I can think of several members, including the former female head of the school who suffered "nervous breakdowns" and left abruptly with no contact. I think that any negative psychological issues that arise...

Re: is the school of philosophy a cult?

Hi Carlynn, Your experience was of a pretty typical residential. I was involved for many many years growing up, with about 6 years of regular residentials. Certainly I remember many things about them, good, and bad, but what stands out the most for me was how tired I always was. We were so busy duri...

Re: How many people still read this Forum?

Yes, I realize that there is a big difference between joining such a group as an adult, and being raised within it. And I make sure to mention this when I talk to people about the school who are unfamiliar with it. I'm sure my experience would have been vastly different if I'd joined in my 20s rathe...

Re: How many people still read this Forum?

I saved several links to older posts but I can't find where I saved them. I talked some about my experiences as a woman in my introductory post as an ex-SPP member from NYC. I'll look through my posts and find them. You can also do the same. Since I grew up in the school, my gender-related experienc...

Re: just joined

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised you made it all the way through parts 1 and 2. It sounds like you'd be happier somewhere like the Ayn Rand Society.

Re: How many people still read this Forum?

Dear Daffy et al, For your information I am seeking transparency concerning gender balance within the SES, particularly related to Leadership positions, both in principle and in practice. I am sorry but I am currently unable to provide any further details. I will in due course. Trubleshtr Good luck...

Good point, Bonsai.

In fact, I'm much rather see actual change in the organization than receive a verbal apology for what has already happened.

Re: How many people still read this Forum?

Hi trublshtr, I still read the boards, and would be very interested in hearing what is going on now, as I still know quite a few people involved. I'm sorry you are having to deal with whatever issue you are having, and I hope it resolves well. One of the many reasons I left was knowing that I could ...
