Hardline activists
Does anyone know what happened to the phrase "hardline activists" which I remarked on just a few short days ago in the Governors' follow-up response?
It no longer seems to be there. Have I missed it?
Or did I just dream it?

Well, giving DB and GS the best of it, they are failing to inspire me with confidence. The thing about truth is that until you hear it you don't necessarily know what it is. But when you do hear it you feel immensely relieved - "thank goodness SOMEONE had the guts to say it!" Is there anyone in the ...

NYC, It's totally against the spirit of philosophy, but sadly that is all too common. It is pretentious and it prevents philosophy. If you cannot be honest about your own mind, how can you expect others to be honest about theirs? How can you seek wisdom if you are already claiming to have found it? ...

Keir Sure, and there are examples of this in the Upanishads where philosophy is almost like a competition. Or in Greek philosophy, as you say. Authority is a difficult one, especially in the context of the present dispute. But all I meant was that some people do appear to have some knowledge or wisd...

Bella, Yes, we have, back in the day. But it's like there is an embarrassment - right, we've said that now, nasty bit over, let's not talk about it any more. I haven't heard about dress code in a long time. As a result it has become more relaxed. Ties optional at group evenings, at least for the you...

It's great speaking to Aussies, they know how to get personal. ADG I didn't say that those were my beliefs. I said that the School needs to re-state its principles so that they could be discussed. Nothing to object to there, is there? I thought you were all in favour of openness. We are all capable ...

Well said Bella. However it is time we examined some of these beliefs. Research with small children has been done where they are put in a room with a loudspeaker broadcasting from another room which has a baby in it. When the baby starts crying, heart monitors reveal the boys getting more highly str...

Erik That last statement cannot be denied. If any good comes out of all this I hope it is a recognition within the SES that we need to move beyond the 'cultish' behaviours. I'd like to say we have, but there are still people who want to keep them. Really, I think that what matters is not the beliefs...

Dear Andrew Sorry, I must confess that I am going purely on hearsay there. E.g. the Chairman's Report: 1.2 Bad Press 1.2.1 The Newspaper Campaign (a) On June 8th 1983, a newspaper carried an ?expos?? of the S.E.S. and ?its schools?. This had been written by two investigative journalists, Hounam and ...
