reform
hi keir, bella, et al, when ever i questioned the leadership about the bad old days, and reform, I was told... 1 there has been an real effort made to open up the school, and amke it more relaxed. 2 the school held open days to the public inviting neighbours to what was essentially a fair. 3 regardi...

parallels
Hi Free Thinker, thanks for the welcome. I left around 1988 I think, but my family was heavily involved until only a few years ago. I won't say how much right now, since it won't take a genius to work out who I am. I have mentioned in another thread that NZ suffered from a "Lord of the Flies" syndro...

investigation/campaign
Hi Ross, Yes, I have read Secret Cult. After reading the book I questioned my family, and they reluctantly said these things did happen, but they didn't want to elaborate. Alot is blamed on NZ being isolated, a bit like the Lord of the Flies syndrome, and that the school was still finding it's feet....

ficino school
the Ficinio school was set up very specificy to echo the St James model, and it indistinguishable from the SOP as being part of the overall organisation. I liked this quote from the ERT website: "Despite this variety, the mark of the day was unity. All present were brought together by the desire to ...

the work
hi Bella, two points: 1 Yes, we all understood that the work was practice for the outside world, and yes, it was practical to practice this when at the school... HOWEVER... many of us has been SOP members for over ten years...many longer... NEVER in my recollection, did the school organise for us to...

financial gain
to contribute an answer to the original question, I saw no evidence of the larger membership gaining financially, nor the tutors or the leadership. It was understood that the leaders lived by donation, which meant however that any previously earned weath was enjoyed without any living expenses. It d...

the one good
in my time in the school during the 70's and 80's I and every member must have put in hundreds of hours maintaining and improving the properties in Auckland. While all this was meant to have practical and philosophical purposes, my long term issue has been that this energy was not directed into the ...

how to sweep
Once as a young boy no older than 8 or 10, I was helping to sweep the grounds. My tutor who must have been watching me for a while marhced up and asked me to stop. He said: " you are sweeping towards you!... only women should sweep like that. Men should sweep away from them selves" WHAT !!! His expl...

bequest
yes, a close family member left money to the school. More than they left to their own extended family (nb: i was not slighted by their will, but felt for my extended family) It is a long story, but needless to say I felt they had been brainwashed into beefling obliged to give money on their death. T...

Hi there, reading this thread has been a trip down memory lane. Read this for my intro... http://www.whyaretheydead.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=327 Yes, I do recall the note taking, and yes, it was amazing how what you said at one meeting might come and haunt you a long time later. Completely unassoc...

nz sop
Hi there, As my signature suggests, i was born into the school via my parents and grand parents membership. I attended pre-school and sunday school and night classes, weekends, and camps. I left finally when I was 16 (only because I was legally entitled to choose to do so) and have since managed to ...
