This is a fascinating thread, many thanks to M Goldschmied for making these materials available, and to Snowman and Daska for pointing them out. I am amazed there are not more responses to the report and letter by now... I had left the girls school by the time the report was written and luckily neve...

Interesting thread. I've often struggled to reconcile the SES' advocation of complementary therapies and my own experiences since leaving the school. My mum has been into loads of different health fads, both while in the SES and since leaving in about 1993. Anyone remember the funny white powders fr...

I would like to say congratulations to Snowman and Erikdr for managing to conclude what is clearly a very personal issue in such a functional way. Having looked it up it occurred to me that perhaps they are using the term "occult" in different ways...? I'm sure Erikdr wil have an humble opinion abou...

timtams -v- penguins

Hmm yes the penguin resemblance was obvious but the variety of sugary stylings and flavours, not to mention the fact that they are about half as big again was really quite exciting. Alas for the penguin that there is no such exciting concept as the timtam suck, but then 'penguin suck' actually sound...

I know what you mean Tom - I must confess that I didn't really mean to make an appointment - I kind of rang up hoping to be told that I was too late or there were no appointments left, but as soon as Betts' secretary got on the phone and ascertained why I was ringing she said ''How would 3.30 on wed...

my enquiry experience

I was basically shitting it all day and when I got there I felt about 5 years old, outside caldwell's office or something. It was incredibly stressful, made easier by the fact that Townend was welcoming and grandfatherly, and asked a lot of questions as well as letting me talk. This was particularly...

no letter

I didn't get a letter but I do get the Spectrum to make me barf from time to time. I did contribute to enquiry though, thanks to this great site and encouragement from members such as Matthew Woolf. Thanks for that by the way.

foundation recruitment

I think recruitment for foundation groups starts at beginning of 6th form - am I right, anyone? I have the impression that sixth form life can be made pretty unpleasant if pupils, especially those from ses families, do not join. Did anyone hear about the time when a sixth form boy, planning to spend...

Hi Suzanne, I just wanted to say to you that I empathise with the difficulty you must be experiencing in reading a discussion of your immediate and extended family. I know it is not a pleasant feeling, and one that happens too often in gossip-ridden institutions like the SES. I am just one year olde...

Thanks Anita for your comprehensive and lucid posting. You sum up so much of my feeling, although I see it from the child's perspective. My parents would have been at the school with you during the introduction of the measure 'system'/rules. The trouble with coming from an SES family as well as atte...

TB, You have as much right as anyone else to write on this forum. Your experience of the SES is as valid as that of anyone who ever went to the adult classes. I now look at the SES through different eyes, courtesy of the people on this board Thankyou for this statement, it demonstrates the potential...
